40 days of running, 40 days of challenge, 4 historic Vancouver International Marathons… 40 charities, 40 volunteers… 40 reasons & people that matter to a community event: 1972-2011 THEN, NOW, NEXT…. a 40 day journey to challenge oneself, inspire volunteerism and support to community events and charities

40 Days – About the Project

The journey starts… January 1, 2011

Welcome to the 40 Running Project… please check the daily posts (calendar on the right)

My name is Jordan Myers, I am an event management professional, the course operations manager for the BMO Vancouver Marathon, a husband & father of a busy 2-year-old girl, a volunteer, and an amateur athlete who has been on the US and Canadian ITU Long Distance World Championship Triathlon Teams and this year my life has been forever changed by cancer… My aunt was diagnosed with breast cancer about 6 months ago…  and a colleague from one of the events I work on, a competitive soccer player herself, was just recently diagnosed with a form of cancer…

My friend & colleague and I have worked together for over 2 years. It was heart breaking to hear this recent news, especially because she will start treatment so soon…. myself & staff feel helpless despite her positive and proactive attitude toward her health…

After a hit and run accident that took me off most activity and any opportunity to race for the last 4 months (including a full-Iron distance triathlon I had been working toward for the better part of last year) I started to think of a personal project I could challenge myself with in my recovery and how I could respect & celebrate the legacy of 40th Vancouver Marathon and volunteers… I decided I would run 40 days consecutively and attempt 4 marathons in that period and write about 40 people who matter to this community event (1972-2011)… and since my colleague’s news this week, I have felt that there was more at stake, that there was more I could do with this project, for my Aunt, my friend and others.

It is my aspiration that this project will be a virtual & actual fundraising event for charities/non-profits, inspiring volunteerism, community, and wellness. I invite anyone to get out and track their own daily activity for 40 days, or come join me on a run, or volunteer, or simply give to your preferred charity.

I hope my daily journey over the next 40 days and the people’s stories I share will create a bond of hope and strength in our community through the fight against cancer (or your preferred cause) as well as inspire volunteerism in community events

Take time to check the daily posts & photos over the 40 days

  2. Hi Jordan,

First let me just say, thank you for all that you are doing!! You’re truly an inspiration, and it is so great to read about you’re mission and your efforts.

I am currently interning at United Planet in Boston, Massachusetts and I wanted to get in touch with you first to thank you for your dedication and hard work, but also to thank you for including our organization in your cause! We feel honored and really appreciate what you had to say about us!

I also wanted to see if you wanted to link your blog post to our web-page or vice-versa. We are currently running a series of blogs from past volunteer stories as well as from people who have a message to share; I’d love to post something from you (if you have the time)! Also, if you’d be interested, our blog is update rather frequently at:
